How to view recent Linkedin activity is an important part of the engagement process.
We all love Linkedin but of late the changes that keep being introduced have maybe tested the strength of that devotion, especially the removal of Linkedin Activity streams…I hear many people say that they think Linkedin has lost it’s way.
The ability to look at someones activity was always a key feature on Linkedin as it provided a quick and easy way to guage number of posts and quality of those posts and all importantly FREQUENCY…
Frequency gave a ready reckoner of just how active that connection was and a potential yardstick of their footprint across Linkedin and other social platforms.
Last December this functionality was removed so the ability to see what someone had Liked, shared or commented on was no longer there on the main profile page…not good for the Engagement side of anyones marketing.
To keep seeing a person’s activity became a daily task and or a work around was to view the person on a tablet or mobile platform..all well and good but not ideal as with bthe best wil in the world WiFi signals are never consistent.
Linkedin Activity – Does this work on all profiles? Yes it does..
Regardless of connectivity it seems that you can view recent activity so that’s across 1st 2nd and 3rd connections.
The example above is for a 1st connection but by clicking on the down arrow next to any coneect button reveals the same feature.
I may be wrong but the reintroduction of Activity feeds is an improvement as previously you could only view these feeds if you were a first connection..
ROI – Return on Interest
Linkedin in my view is both a social platform and a powerful buisness tool that helps grow your business, where else can you network with so many people?
The Activity feed is a first hand opportunity to evaluate a contact or potential contacts presence..what they post reflects what they think and what their experise is.
There is so much talk about Social Proof on the web that it’s importnat to be able to get a quick reference point.
Are they the expert? Does that come across?
Personally I would be more inclined to engage with someone who has an up to date Activity stream especially one that has been added to with comments and Likes.
The Publishing Platform ( this is a great Social Media Examiner article on the subject ) is now all the rage and has taken over the space that used to be occupied by the Activity feed…i.e just under your main profile area.
Publishing is a great introduction, don’t get me wrong, but I fear that updates may suffer as there is a real drive for people to try and become Influencers..no bad thing but just because someone can hold a pen,tap a keyboard and post the update does not make them a writer.
In my humble view the Publishing function may dillute the impact of Linkedin as there are already some rather doubtful articles being posted that are nothing short of self indulgent publicity for the person who posted the piece..
Bear in mind as well that the Articles feature on Linkedin is where you can find more of these Published gems.. Think about what subject you could comment on and add your expert view to search and then engage…
You can search over a time frame of When Posted within last week to 6 months to a year …you can even serach by Author and see who has the obvious expertise..
look at their profile and View Recent Activity..what easier way is there to get all the material you need for that Warm Call?
You could then connect by looking at their shared connections with you by searching into that connections connections… thats what I love about Linkedin, the many interlinked search engines that allow you to gather usable Business Intelligence to grow your business.
